  • Drink a lot of water. Doctors say 6 to 8 glasses a day but if you did that, you’d be running to the toilet every hour. Still, taking a goodly amount is recommended. Tip: Bottled water or a home purifier is recommended. I have both a water purifier and a distiller for making distilled water.
  • Eats lots of fresh fruits and vegetables raw. Why? When you cook fruits or vegetables, the enzymes are killed and the nutritional value becomes limited. Plus, it’s good for intestinal health with its plentiful amount of fiber. It makes you a “regular” guy or gal, in other words. Doctors recommend 40 grams of fiber a day, which is achievable by eating fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, and a herbal concoction of psyllium seed and slippery elm. The intestinal tract is one of the most neglected areas of one’s health.
  • Keep to a minimum processed foods. Foods like pizzas, prepared foods like Stouffers, etc. should be limited. Packaged snack foods too.
  • Avoid margarine, hydrogenated oils, cheese, butter, full-fat dairy products, unskinned chicken, and vegetable shortening.
  • Limit your animal protein, substituting instead vegetable proteins.
  • Avoid mixed vegetable oils, corn oil, safflower and sunflower oils; use instead extra-virgin olive oil. (Safflower and sunflower oils that have high-oleic versions are okay.)
  • Avoid or limit high-fructose corn syrup.
  • Avoid milk products. Milk is bad for many reasons. Drink soy milk instead. That’s what I do and I don’t miss cow’s milk at all.
  • Avoid alcohol. Okay, I know I’ve hit a nerve here! If you have to drink alcohol, drink wine, especially red wine as it has a lot of resveratrol in it. What is that? It’s a naturally occurring substance found in fruits like red grapes, raspberries, and mulberries. It’s also a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent many cancers.

  • Take Alpha-Lipoic Acid daily, around 100 mg (miligrams) to 400 mg a day. This is a powerful antioxidant that helps deter aging.
  • Drink decaffeniated green tea. This is a tea that has an abundance of powerful antioxidants. With a little bit of honey added, it doesn’t taste that bad — really! Try it and you’ll see.
  • If you can, take resveratrol daily — ideally in a pill form.

  • Take Vitamins C, E, and carotenoids daily. Ideally, this should be in a good comprehensive dietary supplement. Consider taking a bee pollen supplement if you’re not allergic to it. Bee pollen has every vitamin, mineral, enzyme, and co-nutrient in it and is a great baby boomer nutritional supplement.
